Intro

I'm a typical Californian - I was born in NJ.  Actually, that seemed to apply far more when we lived in Orange County than it does here in the Bay Area.  Lots of people around here were born in the area, but it still seems like the majority are from somewhere else.

This blog is about all the neat stuff around here in Northern California, and the adventures I'm having with my children as we explore this great area.  Skiing, bicycling, hiking, camping (well, maybe......), Yosemite, Sequoia, Mt. Shasta, the beach, the (huge!) surf, San Francisco, Oakland (a surprisingly neat place to explore), Monterrey, Santa Cruz - the list is endless.

Some of the great stuff is a trip in and of itself - getting to Yosemite almost always involves staying overnight (although we did hike Half Dome in a day trip once), but there's also so much great stuff to do that doesn't even take an entire morning.  Today I snuck out  for a 5 mile hike with my dog in Las Trampas Regional Park.  10 minutes from my door, but it felt like we were miles away from everything.  This is tough hiking, too, with some pretty significant elevation gains.  You can learn more about all of the regional parks at http://www.ebparks.org

So, stay tuned and I'll try and update this as often as possible.  In the meantime, please check out my cycling blog at http://jbcycling.blogspot.com/ .
